
Golden Corral is in Trouble – Are the 6 in Colorado in Jeopardy of Closing?
The number of buffet restaurants in Colorado gets smaller and smaller as the years go by. A longtime chain with only six in the state, could be closing at least one of them down.
Why is Golden Corral Filing for Bankruptcy - Will it Effect Colorado?
According to TheStreet.com, Golden Corral filed for bankruptcy restructuring on June 17, 2025, with only $150,000 in assets and $1.64 million in liabilities. I'm not a business genius, by no stretch, but that doesn't sound good.
Golden Corral started out in Fayetteville, North Carolina in 1973. The Loveland location opened in 2011.
I pass by the Golden Corral in Loveland every day around 7:30 p.m. after I get off of work; each day I do, that parking lot is very full. It's hard to believe that the chain might be in trouble. If anything, Loveland might be spared from having to close its doors.

Golden Corral holds a special place in my heart, as it was where I took my eldest nephew for his "Golden" birthday when he turned 8 on the 8th. He had a lot of fun eating plate after plate of spaghetti at the Greeley location, back when it was still there.

- Colorado Springs
- Loveland
- Sheridan
- Thornton
- Pueblo
Most of the 350 restaurants the chain has are franchised, but if the parent company has to fold, or restructure, it could mean less support they can give to those franchisees, and then they're forced to shutter.
On the same day as the bankruptcy announcement, it was announced that the fourth Golden Corral in Puerto Rico had opened; that proves that there are some spots where the leading buffet restaurant chain is doing OK.
