Up to four black bears were reported cruising around Fort Collins neighborhoods this week, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Coloradoan.

Although there were no reports of bears disturbing trash bins or bird feeders, CPW Spokesperson Jason Clay told the Coloradoan he would like to tranquilize the bears and relocate them as a preventative safety measure.

  • A yearling bear was spotted around 11:30 a.m on Thursday South of Fossil Ridge High School. CPW officers attempted to find and relocate the cub but were unsuccessful in their search.
  • On August 29, there was a bear cub spotted in Loveland.
  • A different bear was relocated from the West side of Loveland last week, as reported by the Coloradoan.

Bears are currently filling their bellies in preparation for their winter slumber and often times wander into nearby towns in search of food sources.

Clay asks that Northern Colorado residents keep themselves and our beloved wildlife safe by keeping garages closed and only placing trash cans outside on the morning of trash collection. Bird feeders, pet food and fallen fruit from trees will also attract bears to residential areas.
