The Fort Collins Police chief is addressing mask concerns from people of color and other minority groups.

In a post to Facebook, Chief Swoboda calls the "unique concerns" from minority groups and people of color "an important topic that deserves discussion."

He goes on to say that the City of Fort Collins, including representatives from the Fort Collins Police Department, are working to engage different cultural communities in order to open a dialogue about the concerns. He says that he intends to enforce the face covering requirements with sensitivity to the "historical and cultural concerns" it may bring up.

The bottom line is this: we recognize that it's a challenging time, and we're not out trying to make life more difficult for people. Education is our preferred tool; citations have been and will continue to be a last resort when it comes to gaining public health order compliance.
