20 years ago Pete Turner was just about to open his first location for Illegal Pete's and was already getting push-back about the name. Now, two decades later Illegal Pete's has some Fort Collins residents up in arms again.

TheDenverChannel.com is reporting that The Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition is upset because they believe that the name is upsetting to immigrants, and damaging to the community.

The Coloradoan says that the name "Illegal Pete's" came partially from "a novel he read as an English major in Boulder" and his own name, Pete Turner.

Pete Turners response from the DenverChannel.com:

“It really kind of took me by surprise because the idea that the ‘illegal,’  in Illegal Pete’s  had anything to ever to do with immigration never was and never is and never has been the meaning behind that word."
