Multiple other outlets are now reporting that Sperbeck is on life support at an area hospital and that doctors do not expect him to recover, telling family there is "no hope."

Per reports from TMZ and others, Elway was driving a golf cart with Sperbeck on the back, when he suddenly fell off as it was moving, hitting his head on the ground. Elway and the others quickly stopped, turned around and went back to him. It was Elway himself who called 911.

KESQ-TV in Palm Springs interviewed a witness to the accident and described the scene immediately after it happened.

It's not yet been reported whether or not it was a golf cart rigged for a golf course or strictly for passengers with a back seat.

Sperbeck and Elway have worked together since at least 1990, with the former serving as the latter's agent in the final chapter of his playing career and ever since. The two friends ultimately became business partners, launching Elway's wine brand called 7Cellars together in 2015.
