Running any small business in Colorado can be a struggle, but when "life" keeps throwing things in your way, it's very tough.

Local bars have a way of bringing communities together; big corporate chains like Chili's and Applebee's can't bring warmth and fun to the table like a local joint. The bartenders know everybody, everybody knows one another; it's great.

It's a shame that they got bogged down with unlucky happenings.

Colorado Bar Closes Down After Five Years

If you've ever been to Edgewater, Colorado, you know it's a terrific little city, with charm and character. I have a friend who grew up in Edgewater, he always loved living there. As of late November of 2024, it had one last bar to grab a drink and food with friends at.

According to Westword, the owner of Providence at 5280 in Edgewater announced that he had closed the bar that he'd opened in 2019 for good. It comes down to a few unrelated bouts with the bringers of bad luck.

  • Having opened in 2019, the pandemic struck nearly right after they opened.
  • The more than 100-year-old building the bar resided in had a water main break in 2022, while they were still recovering form the pandemic.
  • Pedestrian construction on the street where the bar resided slowed business.

So, after having a great place to go, with the passion needed to keep it up and running, the going just got to be too much, and Providence at 5280 is over.

It is a decent location, being just off of Sheridan Boulevard near Sloan Lake; it won't be long before someone with better luck takes over the space.
