Colorado Theater Gets Called Out and Issues Apology to Martin Scorsese
How long can you sit still and watch a movie in a theater?
That seems to be of great debate since the blockbuster hit movie "Killers of the Flower Moon," with a run time of 206 minutes, or almost 3 and a half hours, has been showing in theaters.
"Killers of the Flower Moon" is a western crime drama directed by Martin Scorsese. The movie's official website shares this synopsis:
"At the turn of the 20th century, oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted, and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder."
This is an intense story to tell.
So, back to that question of how long you can sit still and watch a movie? Should a movie theater be able to decide if there can be an intermission so movie watchers can go to the bathroom and get more popcorn?
Apparently not.
Last week, Variety wrote an article about "Killers of the Flower Moon" intermission violations and called out Colorado's Lyric Cinema in Fort Collins for implementing an intermission.
Of course, the Lyric Cinema had a playful response as they issued an apology to Martin Scorsese.
Martin Scorsese defended the movie's long run time in an article with Entertainment Weekly, saying, "In order to truly immerse yourself, you should take out the time."
