It seems like more and more, when you see something new being built in Colorado, it turns out to be a new storage facility. You ask yourself, "how many of these things do we need?'

When you think about how Colorado likes to come a across as a state where "we have all that we need," seeing all these storage unit facilities begs to differ. What are we storing in these, that we actually need to hold onto [it] as opposed to letting it go?

It's coming down to "supply vs. demand," and smart business people looking to make a good amount of money.

Coloradans Appear to Have Too Much Stuff

A recent study, done by StorageCafe.com, looked at Coloradans discretionary dollars and where that money is going. It looks like people who are interested in starting a small business in Colorado have seen that data as well.

Colorado ranks #2 in the nation for the amount of searches done regarding "self storage;" which means that even though we see a lot of storage facilities across the Front Range, we're likely to be seeing even more, to accommodate.

How Profitable Are All These Storage Unit Facilities We See in Colorado?

Clearly, not many people dive into a business without knowing if that business is likely to make any money; and self-storage can be very lucrative. According to sources, a self-storage business could see a profit margin of 11% (which is very good) to a whopping 41%, which sounds astounding.

I once stored a couch that I wanted to use in (undetermined) future move for over a year. One couch in small storage unit; it seemed prudent; "I'll put this couch in that new apartment; this is great."

Over a year later, that couch was still in storage, and I had paid twice what the couch was worth, storing it. Those guys made "hand over fist" on my stupid couch, which I don't even have, now.
