Colorado Football All-American and Pro Wrestler Dead at 63
Leon White, also known as "Vader" as a professional wrestler, died Monday at the age of 63 due to complications battling pneumonia.
At the University of Colorado, he was a two-time All-American playing center for the Buffs. In 1978, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams and was on their Super Bowl XIV roster, but knee problems eventually pushed him out of the game.
His wrestling career began in Japan in the 1980's where he dominated in the New Japan Pro Wrestling. He became the heavyweight champion in the late '80's. He came back to the US in 1990 sporting his menacing persona "Vader" and won the WCW world championship. He eventually moved on to what was known then as the WWF.
His talents went beyond the football field and the ring, White also made appearances on "Baywatch" and "Boy Meets World" television shows in the 1990's.
