Let's face it, nobody enjoys waiting on line at the DMV.

The good news? Those days could be long gone, and it's all thanks to the Colorado DMV's latest innovation in its ongoing digital transformation (I mean, it is 2021).

According to an official news release from the Colorado Department of Revenue - Division of Motor Vehicles, the DMV will be releasing its new Appointment Online Check-in feature on August 9.

With the new feature, Coloradans can check-in for their appointments and wait for their turn for service wherever they choose -- in a car, at a coffee shop or wherever is most comfortable or convenient.

The hope is that this new feature will significantly reduce the need to physically stand in line at DMV offices throughout the state by empowering Coloradans to choose where they wait for service.

It's important to note that, before the Aug. 9 launch, appointment scheduling will be unavailable from Friday, Aug. 6 until launch day (Aug. 9) while the system is upgraded.

While scheduling an appointment to visit the DMV, Coloradans will be asked to enter a contact email address and/or a cell phone number to receive messages regarding their appointment. These messages will simply provide information about checking in, when to come in for your appointment, and rescheduling or canceling appointments.

With the new Appointment Online Check-in feature, Coloradans can check-in to their appointment remotely via text message, or using a QR code and will receive a text message notifying them when to walk up to the Driver License Office doors.

Coloradans will also have the option to bring the automated email issued at the time the appointment was made; a technician will be able to scan its barcode to check in.

If you're not all that tech savvy, don't panic: Coloradans without computer or smartphone access can still schedule an appointment by calling the DMV at 720-295-2965 or 303-205-2335 for Colorado Road and Community Safety Act (SB13- 251) appointments.

Each driver license office has a greeter on duty that can assist you in checking in for your appointment.

"The Appointment Online Check-in feature is another step forward in DMV’s sweeping efforts to transform digitally, so it can better serve Coloradans whether in-office, online or on the go", as per the news release.

The DMV is now encouraging Coloradans to skip the trip and use its online services whenever possible (what a punishment, right?).

So, say goodbye to waiting on long times - save time, and go online. For more information regarding the DMV's new digital appointment system, visit DMV.Colorado.gov/Save-time.
