Castle Rock Restaurant That Violated Health Order Closes For Good

The C&C - Coffee & Kitchen in Castle Rock has closed permanently, according to a post on the restaurant's Facebook page.

The restaurant gained notoriety statewide on Mother's Day weekend, when it opened to hundreds of patrons for dine-in service in defiance of Gov. Jared Polis' safer-at-home order.

Shortly after, the state of Colorado and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment suspended the restaurant's license indefinitely.

9News reports that C&C was able to reopen again on June 14, but unfortunately, the reopening was not enough to keep the business afloat amidst the pandemic.

The restaurant had its last day on Sunday (July 26), and the owners had strong words for the Colorado government in regards to its closure.

"The hypocrisy of the lockdowns was disappointing as big business were not scrutinized like small businesses were, riots are okay, personal funerals are not," said owners Jesse and April Arellano in the post. "Over and over we see the Government chip away our rights, chip away at our choices, and chip away at our freedom. The toll on our family from all of this has been immense."

The public had mixed reactions to the closing, with some Facebook commenters offering blessings, and others calling the closure "karma."

While C&C's Castle Rock location is gone now, the owners hope to keep their Colorado Springs restaurant running for as long as they can.
