City of Aurora City Council Tries To Teach Water Conservation
Here's something that hasn't really crossed my thoughts, I think ever.
How many restaurants do you go into where once you're seated and the server comes to the table, they bring the table each a glass of water? How many don't, or at least leave you to ask for it before they bring it?
It's a topic of discussion in the city of Aurora, as the city council passed a resolution the other night asking restaurants to only give out glasses of water if customers ask for it, somewhat going against what feels like a long standing courtesy of automatically giving water to diners as they sit down at the table.
That said, let's be honest. How many times do you actually drink it, versus just leave it to sit the entire meal, only leaving it for them to pour out after you leave?

Fox 31 in Denver reports that restaurants will now be asked - not ordered - to not provide water to its patrons unless they specifically request it. Should the city ever face drought conditions, the city will be able to make it mandatory.
They say the move won't actually do much for saving water, but will create a larger awareness for water conservation going forward, rather than filling so many glasses and having to pour them all down the drain.
The Aurora Water District says their reserves are currently about 65% full, so whether or not that will happen remains to be seen. In the meantime, if you want water with your meal, you'll need to ask for it!
