A Real Pokemon Go Hike in Wellington: Log as Many Species As You Can with NoCo Wildlife
Want to catch them all...for real? Well, like the Pokemon Go app, You'll be able to take pictures this weekend, and log the real species you find during the City Nature Challenge Hike at Soapstone Prairie Natural Area.
Hosted by Northern Colorado Wildlife, this hike will occur May 1 and welcomes all ages and fitness levels. It is also an international event. So, cities will be competing against each other to see who can find the most plants and animals in their area. So, join in the fun and represent your city!
NoCo Wildlife Volunteer and Operations Coordinator, Kate Boyd, told "Tuned In to NoCo" that they are using a specific app to log the findings, and that they want everyone and anyone to help find as many species as possible.
"It's through inaturalist, which is an app that anybody can use on their phones to help them identify and make observations about our native species. It's kind of a jampacked weekend where we want as many of us as we can to get out into nature...even some of our urban areas too, and make sure that we can get as many observations as possible to help us forward citizen science a little bit."
Boyd says this hike is not just about the competition, and she's excited to see what species will be found this year.
"It's less about the competition and more about just having a lot of fun and making those observations, and getting a chance to see some cool species. We're getting into early summer and spring now so we'll hopefully have a really good chance to see some awesome species out there."
Boyd says they don't want any animals scared away during the hike, so make sure you leave your pets at home but don't forget to bring a good pair of hiking boots and water.
