8 Colorado Eateries up for Country’s Most Prestigious Restaurant Awards
Eight Colorado restaurants are up for the prestigious James Beard Awards. The 2019 list for the pinnacle of the industry was released last Wednesday.
Colorado has claimed top honors in the past, as Alex Seidal from Denver won Best Chef in the southwest region last year and a CSU professor Temple Grandin was honored with the Who's Who of Food & Beverage in America in 2016.
If you have never heard of the James Beard Foundation, they are a nonprofit foundation that strives to honor and celebrate America’s restaurants and chefs that keep America’s food culture alive, exciting and more sustainable. They give out awards for over 20 categories, including Best New Restaurant, Outstanding Service, Outstanding Pastry Chef and many more. Making it on this list is a huge accomplishment and the lucky few restaurants and chefs who did make the semifinalist list include the following:
- Q House in Denver for Best New Restaurant
- Andy Clark of Moxie Bread Co. in Louisville for Outstanding Baker
- Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder for Outstanding Service
- Element 47 at the Little Nell in Aspen for Outstanding Wine Program
- Caroline Glover of Annette in Aurora for Best Chef in the Southwest
- Kelly Whitaker of The Wolf’s Tailor in Denver for Best Chef in the Southwest
- Jeb Breakell of The Wolf’s Tailor in Denver for Outstanding Pastry Chef
- Todd Leopold and Scott Leopold of Leopold Bros in Denver for Outstanding Wine, Spirits or Beer Producer
Are you hungry yet? The final list will be going out on March 27 in Houston Texas at 8 a.m., so keep a lookout for that and keep your fingers crossed that there will be Colorado names on that list!
