Not far north of the Colorado/Wyoming border there will be a camp to house the workers needed to build data centers in Laramie County. It makes one wonder, with that many newcomers coming so close to Colorado, how will the Fort Collins area be effected?

Why Are Nearly 6,000 Workers Coming to Southern Wyoming?

With the controversy that data centers, also known as energy infrastructure projects, it's a little surprising that Laramie County is ready to take on "several more," according to WyomingNews.com. Data centers can use the same amount of energy of a midsize city; a city is similar to what is planned for an area southeast of Cheyenne: a place for workers to live while these data centers are being built.

Not to get into the "nitty gritty" of what the 5,600 workers, contractors, and subcontractors will be building while their living in this "man camp" not far from Fort Collins; let's talk about how Northern Colorado might be effected by the camp.

Why Might the 5,600 Workers Leave Camp for Northern Colorado?

The camp (if fully approved,) will have indoor/outdoor recreation, laundry and other needed administrative buildings. it won't have it's own grocery store, or "places to hang out," like a coffee shop, restaurants, or bars. While Cheyenne does have all those things, so does Northern Colorado, especially not far away in Wellington.

Will Northern Colorado Amenities Draw People from Across the Border?

I can see many of these workers wanting to "get out of Cheyenne/Wyoming;" why not hop in their "rig" and take the [relatively] quick drive down I-25 to see what's happening in the Fort Collins area. Maybe a stop in at Ridley's on their way back for the weekly pantry needs.
