17-Year-Olds Voted in Colorado Primary For the First Time

I have seen news coverage on potential 17-year-old voters, as thousands of young people will turn 18 after the primary, but before the general election. However, I didn't realize the movement was already signed into law.

As more and more young people take an interest in the future of politics, I am not surprised to see this new voting action.

“I voted last night. And, that was the first time voting,”

“I was really excited,” 17-year-old Peyton Glenn told CBS Denver. “I thought I was going to miss (the primary), and I would have to vote wait five more years for the next one."

After learning she was eligible to vote, Glenn encouraged her classmates to vote as well.

Colorado is the 17th state in the nation to adopt such a law. With the intention of allowing young people, eligible for the general election, opportunity to choose their primary candidate.

Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder George Stern said the county expected between 2,500 and 3,000 new teenage voters to participate in the primary, according to CBS Denver.
