Denver’s 16th Street Mall Gets a Brand New Name – Sort Of
For some time, Denver's 16th Street Mall has been undergoing quite the transformation.
Opened back in the early 80s and branded as a "mall" at the time, the area has changed significantly in the 40+ years it's been around. Sure, there have been some ups and some downs.
But in 2021, the City of Denver approved a $150 million renovation - which has now reached $170 million, for the record - to completely change the perception of the area and revitalize it as a serious spot for social gatherings, shopping, dining and nightlife.
In addition to spending money on physical renovations, they hired a big marketing firm to come up with new branding and potentially a new name.

So it finally has been announced. The 16th Street Mall will now officially be called: 16th Street.
What a change! That will most certainly paint an entirely new picture of what has been a pretty unpleasant place the last handful of years through COVID and a major renovation.

I kid, of course. The renovation is nearly complete, and business owners and patrons truly couldn't be happier with the transformation. Fox 31 in Denver reports that in addition to a beautiful new look, other enhancements have made it feel much cleaner, safer and bring a "new energy" vibe to a part of Denver that needed it.

Additionally, the city is contemplating a new "open container" policy for 16th Street, which would allow alcoholic beverages to be enjoyed by patrons who walk through the more than a mile long row of shops, restaurants and attractions. The policy would have some restrictions, but it's clear they're doing everything they can to again make 16th Street the place to be in Denver.
