Fort Collins police are investigating a single-vehicle accident that occurred Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of an adult male.

At approximately 4:21 a.m. on November 17, police were notified about an accident at 310 E. Prospect Road in Fort Collins. According to the FCPD, an adult male was driving a 2018 silver Chevrolet Malibu at a very high rate of speed, eastbound on Prospect Road, when the vehicle veered off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle proceeded to strike a tree, residence, and multiple bushes before coming to a complete stop.

The driver of the Malibu was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The Larimer County Coroner will release the man's identity, cause and manner of death at a later time.

No other injuries were reported during the accident.

East Prospect remained closed between College Avenue and Stover Street for approximately 6.5 hours while the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team processed the scene. Based on initial investigations, police believe speed was a factor in the collision and are also working to determine if the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Police are also looking to speak with the driver of an orange or red pickup truck (pictured) that was near the intersection of Prospect/College when the Malibu passed them.
