It's been in the news a lot lately, because the City of Denver was shutting their cameras down temporarily as the contract with Flock Safety hadn't been renewed. Eventually the city contracted with a different company and re-installed cameras made by a different company.

It's also been in the news lately because a Cherry Hills man keeps getting pinged by these cameras and pulled over, for something he didn't do. A error made entering a license plate shows his car as a target, but in reality, it's a different car and different person the police are looking for, as reported by 9News.

A "Flock Camera" is an automated license plate reader (ALPR) - frequently made and networked by Flock Safety - that are installed all around the country, including right here in Colorado to constantly be on the lookout for cars and specific license plates for varying reasons.

The premise is simple and a good one - for public safety, to help police solve crimes and to assist with things like Amber Alerts or Silver Alerts.

There's been quite a bit of controversy around them recently, as many feel like they're an invasion of privacy but also because of concerns Flock could share that data with federal immigration authorities.

In addition to the many municipality-owned cameras across the state, there are even more private ALPR cameras all over the place. If you've ever wondered if you're on camera, there's a website called "DeFlock Maps" that shows the (known) camera locations all across the country. Zoom in on your commute and see how many times your license plate is caught on camera on their website.

Just a note: these camera locations man not be 100% accurate as camera locations occasionally are added or disabled.

So, How Many Points Do You Get For Each Colorado Traffic Violation?

While the amount of points you can get for any different kind of traffic violation may change with certain variables during the legal process - like if you just pay the ticket, you might be eligible for a point reduction - this is generally where each ticket starts upon being written at the incident.
