What Beautiful, Peaceful Place Should be the Home of Northern Colorado’s First ‘Wind Phone?’
As of the fall of 2026, Colorado has about a dozen 'wind phones'; it seems odd that there isn't one in the Northern Colorado area around Fort Collins.
What Are Wind Phones That Are Popping Up Across Colorado?
I hadn't heard of wind phones until I heard about a new one being installed in Colorado Springs in the summer of 2026. If you don't know (like I didn't), wind phones are "old school" landline phones that are mounted but not connected to any line. The premise is, is that you can take a moment, pick up the phone, and have a conversation with a loved one who's passed.
Where Are the Wind Phones in Colorado?
Wind phones began in Japan in 2011; it was 12 years later that the first one appeared in Colorado, in Silverton. Currently, the one furthest north in the state is in Lyons at their Memorial Labyrinth. Other locations include Pueblo, Cañon City, Green Mountain Falls, Aspen, Leadville, Denver, and Arvada. A few are in hospitals/Hospice care centers, a few are in cemeteries, and a few are in open space locations.

I can see where a wind phone could be very helpful in easing the sorrow that comes with losing a loved one. Maybe you stop by just once, or you could stop by regularly to share your thoughts on how your life is going and express how much you still miss that loved one.
The question is: Where should Northern Colorado's first wind phone be placed? Spring Canyon Park is big; perhaps there? You'd have to believe there's a great spot tucked away in Estes Park somewhere, as well. It'll be interesting to see where Northern Colorado's first wind phone winds up.
