Why You Can (Partially) Thank Jimmy Fallon For Colorado’s Nathaniel Rateliff
Colorado's Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats are set to perform on NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tuesday, November 9. The Denver-based band has just released The Future, the group's latest studio album, which was recorded in Rateliff's Broken Creek Studio here in Colorado.
This isn't the band's first time on The Tonight Show stage, however. They're basically old friends of Fallon's at this point. Rolling Stone reminds us that six years ago, upon the release of Rateliff's breakthrough single 'S.O.B.,' the 'Night Sweats electrified' the late night show. And, the group has had ties with the comedian since.
'Rateliff was a burly middle-aged guy from Colorado whom Jimmy Fallon had stumbled across via a YouTube clip, and the Nights Sweats’ rustic look suggested they might feel more at home hanging out at Big Pink in 1968,' Rolling Stone wrote.

Billboard reported that after the band's 2015 performance, which Fallon personally insisted on happening on his show, the band went viral.
Julie Gurovitsch, who books artists on The Tonight Show, told Billboard that once Fallon saw a YouTube video of the band, 'he was such a fan, it was electric,' telling Gurovitsch to get them in, 'the sooner, the better.' After that performance, 'S.O.B.' went on to become an Alternative chart topper, and a song that basically no one doesn't know.
