What is the Coldest Colorado Has Ever Been?
The polar vortex whipped through the U.S. last week and, unsurprisingly, Colorado didn't even bat at eye. We enjoyed sunny days while many parts of the country experienced crazy below-zero temps-- but Colorado still knows how to hold its own in a 'coldest ever' discussion, for sure.
Temperatures in Chicago last week reached -40 degrees, which is colder than Siberia, but Colorado has hit a lower temp than that. According to 9News, "the coldest temperature to ever strike Colorado was recorded on Feb. 1, 1985."
How'd we stack up? -61 degrees. Can you imagine?
Those temps were recorded in the small town of Maybell, Colorado, so we're not sure if Fort Collins felt that chill...but I'm sure trail runners and mountain bikers in our town were still enjoying the outdoors no matter what.
