A deputy with the Weld County Sheriff's Office saved the life of a 19-year-old over the weekend, after the young man suffered a suspected drug overdose.

The family of the 19-year-old man contacted the WCSO on Saturday (March 6) after they found him lying on the floor, possibly overdosing on fentanyl and Xanax.

According to a press release shared on Facebook, deputies responded to the home, which is west of Fort Lupton, at approximately 10:47 a.m. and located the man on the floor in a bathroom. The man was unresponsive and gasping for breath.

Due to the apparent overdose, a deputy administered a four-milligram dose of Narcan nasal spray, which helped the 19-year-old become more alert. An ambulance arrived on scene shortly after that, and medical staff administered another two milligrams of Narcan intravenously. The man was then transported to Platte Valley Medical Center and was expected to survive the incident.

Following the call, deputies later learned that the family had actually found the man unresponsive in his bed. A family member had then moved him to the bathroom to pour water on his head in an attempt to wake him up. During this time, another family member drove to multiple stores in Fort Lupton, trying to find Narcan. The family members ultimately waited close to an hour before finally deciding to call 911.

The Weld County Sheriff's Office urges residents to call for help at the first sign of an emergency. Fortunately, deputies were able to intervene in this situation before the outcome was much worse.
