Though there weren't any fans in the stands at Moby Arena for the CSU Men's Basketball team's final home game of the season, their families showed up, big time.

The last home game of the season is usually a really big deal for seniors on the team, but this season's team doesn't currently have any on the roster. But that didn't stop the team from celebrating their starters on March 3, 2021.

The five starters for the night were introduced, not by Moby's PA announcer as usual, but by videos of family members which played on the big screen.

The starters:

  • Redshirt Freshman Foward - #10 James Moors
  • Sophomore Guard - #4 Isaiah Stevens
  • Junior Foward - #31 Adam Thistlewood
  • Sophomore Guard/Forward - #21 David Roddy
  • Junior Guard - #3 Kendle Moore

Watching the clip that CSU posted on Twitter gives me goosebumps; I can only imagine how it felt inside of Moby.

Brian Roth, the Voice of the Rams, was at Moby when the scene went down and had this to say:

“To see the genuine surprise and joy on the players faces when they saw their parents on the video board was priceless.”

I reached out to CSU Athletics to ask about how it all came together:

From Director of Video Production, Benjamin Brune:

The idea was pitched by an assistant coach on Monday (March 1, 2021.) That afternoon in a content meeting between all our departments we started the process. The director of ops for MBB reached out to all the families and they provided us the videos used. The families’ responsiveness was quick and perfect. That allowed us time to format, test, and feel confident the videos would work. We scripted it in and pulled it off.

Go Rams Family, indeed.
