Colorado State and Colorado Are Not Scheduled To Play This Year
There are few football games as exciting to watch in the state of Colorado than when the Colorado State University Rams and University of Colorado Buffaloes battle it out in the Rocky Mountain Showdown.
It's a long history between these two schools, punctuated by the fact that so many people who live in there state went here or there. CU beat CSU in their first ever matchup 70-6, way back in 1893.
The game has traveled back and forth between Fort Collins and Boulder over the years, with a long running stint at Mile High Stadium in Denver as well, but for the most part has happened nearly every season minus a few skipped here and there since the early 80s.
And who can forget some of the classic matchups between them? The most recent being that double overtime thriller in Boulder back in the 2023 season.

But currently, the Rams and the Buffs aren't scheduled for another showdown until the 2029 season. Or are they??
Sports publication The Athletic has released their 2025 College Football Bowl Predictions and there's a bit of a strange one predicted: that Colorado State and Colorado will meet in a bowl game this year - in Albuquerque.
The New Mexico Bowl will be held December 27 and one has to think Coach Prime down there in Boulder has loftier expectations. But with the departure of his QB son to Cleveland and the NFL, and a lot of new faces coming into the program, it will be a "prove it" year for Deion Sanders as a CFB Head Coach, with some expecting the Buffs not to do too much.

For Colorado State, being invited to the New Mexico Bowl in the 4th year under head coach Jay Norvell - especially with an opportunity to again play the Rocky Mountain Showdown on neutral turf if Colorado was also invited - could be a lot of fun. The Rams look to build on their 2024 season where they finished 8-5 and lost to Miami of Ohio in the Arizona Bowl.
