UPDATE: Cameron Peak Fire at 15,738 Acres, Still No Containment
The Cameron Peak Fire has reached 15,738 acres as of Wednesday morning.
There are over 300 firefighters working to extinguish the fire and we have been assured by Poudre Fire Authority that they are fed and well taken care of.
Wednesday weather is the next challenge firefighters will face as heavy winds are expected along with a thunderstorm. Fire officials are concerned that potential lightening strikes could spark new fires in the area, according to 9News.
A formal disaster declaration has been made by the chairman of the Larimer County Board of Commissioners in response to the Cameron Peak Fire.
Ahead of the Wednesday forecast, Governor Jared Polis plans to issue a statewide fire ban today which includes fire pits in your backyard.
The source of the Cameron Peak Fire, which started on August 13, is currently being investigated.
I have seen photos on social media of what I thought was snow but its actually ash. Northern Coloradans have posted photos of cars and patio furniture covered in ash while more falls from the sky. Larimer County is currently under an air quality advisory.
