Two Small Fires Inside Rocky Mountain National Park
If your Labor Day plans include a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park this weekend, you'll not only notice some firefighting activity but also some closures within the park.
According to the Estes Park News Facebook page, there are two small fires within the park that have lead to some closures:
- One of them is the Mirror Lake Trail, from the junction with the Mummy Pass Trail northbound to Mirror Lake.
- Comanche Peak trail is closed from the park boundary southbound to Mirror Lake.
- Wilderness campsite closures include the Mirror Lake Site and the Koenig stock site. Reservations for these sites are cancelled until further notice.
- Trail Ridge Road is OPEN, but Upper Beaver Meadows Road will be closed due to aviation operations.
As for the fires, the Mirror fire, according to Estes Park News, is 1/10 of an acre. The Forest Canyon Fire is approximately 3-5 acres. The cause of the fires have not been determined, but there was a thunderstorm with lightning that passed through the area yesterday afternoon.
Firefighters will be in the area and hiking into the Forest Canyon Fire today. A small crew and a helicopter from Mesa Verde National Park will join the effort and attack the Mirror Fire.
