
Popular Grocer to Open 10th Colorado Location
Colorado's Trader Joe's locations pale in number as compared to California, which has over 200 of them. Soon, Colorado will see its 10th location of the grocer with those unique items.
Who Was 'Joe' When It Comes to Trader Joe's?
Trader Joe's began back in 1967 in Pasadena, California, when Joe Coulombe opened his first store. He based it on a Polynesian-themed restaurant named Trader Vic's. Trader Joe's locations are meant to give you the feel of being on an adventure, finding new things.
The Trader Joe's in Fort Collins, near College Avenue and Monroe Drive, has classic Trader Joe's "not great" parking.
There's definitely a "feel" when you go into a Trader Joe's. It really is as if you're in little market in some foreign land: "Ooh, look at that!" When you add in that the prices are pretty good, you can see why they're so popular. It is a wonder that Colorado doesn't have more.

It was in 2014 that Trader Joe's first came to Colorado, opening three stores (Boulder, Denver, Greenwood Village) at the same time. Just over a decade later, they had just 6 move locations, including just one in Northern Colorado in Fort Collins.
Trader Joe's to Add Location South of Metro Denver
It was announced in August of 2025, that a new Trader Joe's would be going in south Denver at South Pearl and Louisiana in what is known as the Platt Park neighborhood. The developer was putting together a project for the area similar to what they had done with their property at 8th and Colorado which includes Snooze and a huge Trader Joe's.
