After living in a couple other regions of the U.S. and coming back, I now know that, even though Colorado is expensive compared to some areas, the fact you have a million choices for quick vacations right outside your door makes it worth it and more to me.  There have been years that nice trips through our state have taken the place of the typical week-long flyaway somewhere!

Wallet Hub says Denver, Colorado Springs, and Aurora are some of the nation's best locations for staycations.

The findings are based on

*Recreation opportunities including sports, swimming, hike & bike trails, shopping, and amusement parks.

*Food and entertainment like movies, bowling, nightlife, casinos, festivals, zoos and aquariums, arcades, beer gardens, concert halls, and diversity of restaurant options.

*Rest and relaxation choices from beaches to spas and how nice the weather typically is in the summer.

From Omaha to California, only a few towns made this list, so it's great that some are nearby!
