Take a Look at Poudre Fire Authority’s New Roving Alternative Medical Unit
Poudre Fire Authority has a new member to the squad. RAM (Roving Alternative Medical) is an SUV designed to improve emergency services in Northern Colorado.
The program which began on January 2nd is the start of a low-cost, 14-week pilot program is intended to improve emergency services allowing PFA's engine and truck crews to be available to respond to more serious medical calls, fires, accidents, and other emergencies.
In 2016, according to a news release from the Poudre Fire Authority, emergency crews were dispatched to "more than 21,094 incidents, roughly 17,734 (84 percent) of which were medical in nature." A captain and firefighter will operate the RAM SUV from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. It will be equipped with the same emergency medical equipment carried on PFA engines. An ambulance will still be dispatched to every call the RAM unit responds.
