The State of Colorado decided to build U.S. 34 in 1931. Construction came in small sections over the next few years so traffic could still pass through the canyon.
More than $5,000 was raised for suicide prevention and is being donated to local organizations Team Wellness & Prevention and Alliance for Suicide Prevention.
The project on US Highway 34 through the Big Thompson Canyon is almost completed. Last May’s reopening of the canyon marked the end of all long-term closures.
A bridge off of US 34 in Drake, that hovers above the Big Thompson River was dedicated to a man who worked with the Colorado Department of Highways for 32 years.
