Residents will have to hold off on swimming at Lake Loveland.

According to a press release from the City of Loveland, the Lake Loveland Swim Beach will not open until June 19 due to a lifeguard shortage. Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City only has 50% of its usual lifeguard staff.

"We know how much our community depends on City-provided swimming spots to beat the heat every summer, but we need to make sure we can do that safely," said LeAnn Williams, recreation manager for the City of Loveland's Parks & Recreation Department, in the release.

Williams noted that the City must schedule at least 20 lifeguards per day to safely run the Lake Loveland Swim Beach, Chilson Pool, and Winona Pool. Currently, employees are working overtime at the two pools alone.

Interested parties can apply to be a lifeguard here. For training opportunities, email Karli.Conrad-Davis@cityofloveland.org.

Until then, Williams is asking residents to avoid swimming at Lake Loveland until it is safe to do so.

"While this isn't ideal, the safety of our community is the most important thing and we ask that residents please obey signs, operating hours and lifeguard warnings until we can staff up," she said.
