Storm to Pound High Country On Weekend; Travel Likely Impossible
As folks get set to travel for the upcoming holiday, getting around in the higher elevations of the state will be a nightmare, if not impossible.
A LOT of snow will be coming down in the mountains Friday through Sunday; hopefully, you don't have plans to be on the roads up there.
According to Denver7, this storm will be light for our area, with just strong winds likely. Above 9,000 feet, however, it's going to be a STORM.
The Central and Northern Mountains are under a Winter Storm Warning until 5 p.m. Friday, with 12-18 inches expected in Summit County and 6-12 inches expected around Vail and Aspen.
After that expires, those same areas will go into a Winter Storm Watch through Sunday, with the second part of the storm bringing an additional 10-18 inches for the Summit County area, and 10-14 inches for the Vail and Aspen areas.
So, we're looking at a possible three feet of snow in the Summit County area before Monday morning. That's a pounding.
The roads are going to be a mess.
CDOT will be out there, for sure, but keeping up with the snowfall will be very difficult. Add in accidents and road closures, your driving up there will be a nightmare and impossible in some areas.
Visit CoTrip.org to keep up on road closures it you dare to give it a go this weekend.
