I don't always listen to music when I workout.

But when I do, it's pop music.

I'm not one that requires music to be heavy or hard to get me going.

I'll admit, heavy, driving beats, filthy, rocking, slamming, crunk and all types of other aggro music does do a great job in driving physical activity.

I have to be careful listening to music when I ski, because when something by Muse comes on mid-descent, my spirit wants to ratchet it up to a level that my body is incapable of keeping up with.

This is not a knock on working out to aggro-rock. I love heavy music. Always have, and always will.

Rather, it's an acknowledgement that pop songs, rock from the blues or R&B category, even slow songs can be inspirational in an intense workout.

Heavy music is great for working out. You know what else is great? Any other kind of music that moves you.

Example. I was playing Rachel Platten's Fight Song during a workout recently. Some muscle-head heard a female singing beautifully, cut if off and replaced it with metal, right when me and a couple others were about to sing along with the chorus while lunging:

This is my fight song, take back my life song....

So, if you're looking for a workout playlist filled with only rock, move on. This one has some rock, some pop, but all of the music on this 45 minute playlist has soul, and that's what I think is needed to get pumped for a workout.
