Love Smashburger? You May Want to Visit Your Favorite One in Colorado While You Can
Burger lovers in Colorado may have noticed that a couple of Smashburgers in Northern Colorado had ceased to exist by end of August of 2025.
Mile High City Welcomed the Very First Smashburger
The Smashburger chain got its start in Denver in 2007. The founders created their own "smasher" for burgers; they quickly took off, opening more and more locations. Two of those locations, one in Longmont, one in Loveland, are no longer open.
Smashburger is interesting in the fact that it's a fast-casual burger joint where, at select locations, you can get alcoholic drinks. I know I stopped at the Loveland location a couple of times, for a "burger, beer and fries."
Loveland Burger Joint Sees Opportunity with Loss of Smashburger
Loveland's Smashburger location opened in in the summer of 2011, at Eisenhower Boulevard and Denver Avenue. It was a fairly good location, as there aren't a lot of burger joints near there. There is a Fat Shack a few doors down, however, and they were quick to try and get some sad Smashburger lovers to head their way.
It was in late 2023, that In-N-Out came to Loveland, about two miles away form Smashburger, near the interstate, at Centerra. It's hard to say how that may have affected Smashburger, but people sure do love In-N-Out, even without having alcohol.

Longmont's location opened in the summer of 2013, at Hover Street and Nelson Road in early 2013. There is a lot of competition for diners in that area, including how In-N-Out is planned for Longmont, near the city's Costco.
Fort Collins' Smashburger, off of Harmony and Snow Mesa, is one of the 21 remaining Colorado locations as of September 2025.
