Safety Concerns Shut Down Free Sex Ed Summer Camp in Boulder
A sex education summer camp that was scheduled for 5th through 8th graders in the Boulder area won't be happening. The organizing groups stated "safety concerns" as the reason behind the cancelation.
10-Day Sex Ed Summer Camp in Boulder Not Happening for 2025
It's one of those things you may have not even known it was on the calendar until people start to "shout" about how much they don't like the idea. On one hand, what may have been something helpful to youth won't be happening, on the other, maybe those who were concerned have a point.
As Colorado schools are not required to provide sex education to students, school districts are left to decide what, if any, type of sex education they provide to youth
It was on the calendar, for two sessions, during the month of July 2025: The Teen Clinic of the the Boulder Valley Health Center along with the Renée Crown Wellness Institute at CU holding their annual Sex Ed Summer Camp. One session for 5th and 6th graders, one for 7th and 8th graders.

What the camp was to be about, according to the organizers:
This justice-rooted camp will help guide your young people in navigating their changing bodies and this changing world.
Because all humans, especially young humans, deserve information about their bodies, other people’s bodies, and how to communicate about them in ways that feel fun, affirming, and respectful!
Topics of the Sex Ed Summer Camp in Boulder:
- Bodies Beyond the Binary.
- The Mysteries of Puberty.
- Feelings & How to Navigate Them.
- Consent & Communication.
- So Much More.
From what I could find out, the camp did take place in 2024; prior to that, I'm uncertain. It definitely won't be going on in 2025.

Boulder Sex Ed Summer Camp Canceled Over Safety Concerns
Due to safety concerns, the Boulder Valley Health Center – CU Boulder’s Renee Crown Wellness Institute’s Sex Ed Summer Camp for 5th – 8th graders has been cancelled.
The camp aimed to provide age-appropriate sex education to prevent unwanted pregnancies and emphasize the importance of sexual health for overall well-being. Any extrapolation about the camp’s intentions is incorrect.
Many, over 100, people commented on a Loveland Facebook page when the flyer about it was posted. Most that were opposed felt it was a "grooming" program.
Unbelievable. Then what really amazes me is how parents are going to sent their children to this camp. Just another way to indoctrinate the children....you’d rather send your kids to a sex camp with possible pedophiles to be groomed rather than teach your own children??'
