Ram Jam: CSU Hurdler Golaube Contributes On and Off the Track
Kamal-Craig Golaube was born in Florida, attended high school in Hawaii and attended Portland State before landing at Colorado State.
it's an interesting tale on how Kamal became a CSU Ram Student-Athlete. His Jamaica-born mother works for Ritz-Carlton; she was transferred from Jamaica to the Fort Lauderdale area of Florida, which is where Kamal was born.
Kamal attended elementary school, middle school, and his first year of high school in Sarasota before his mom took a transfer to the Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua, Hawaii. While running track at Lahainaluna High School, Kama caught the attention of Portland State who ended up recruiting him.
Kamal attended and competed for Portland State for two years before it was announced that their Track & Field Program would be cut. As Kamal looked for schools to transfer to, Colorado State University matched his aspirations for not only hurdling but academically as well, with CSU having a Health & Excercise Science Program which fits into Kamal's goal of attending Physician's Assistant School.
Kamal has had great success on the track while at CSU, some notable achievements including:
- In his Junior year, he ran a career-best 8.06 60 Meter Hurdles at the Mountain West Championships.
- Also in his Junior year, at his Fum McGraw debut for Outdoor Track & Field, Golaube ran a career-best 14.43 in the 110-Meter Hurdles.
- In his Senior year, he won the 60-Meter Hurdles at both the Colorado Invitational and the Air Force Collegiate Open.
- in his Redshirt Senior year Indoor (2020-2021) he won the 55-Meter Hurdles at the Wyoming Power Meet, with a time of 7:46 which is eighth-best in CSU history.
Off the field, Kamal has been involved in many endeavors and initiatives including having started the Colorado State Athlete Ally Program that celebrates and salutes LGBTQIA+ student-athletes, coaches, and allies within the community.
Kamal talked to us about getting from Florida to Colorado State, his pride in Colorado State Track & Field and his work in race relations and LGBTQIA+ relations.
