Poudre River Flood Victims Identified as Greeley Residents (Updated 5/28 @ 5 a.m.)
The two who drowned Monday in the Poudre River were Greeley residents.
14-year old Cristopher Brian Alana Canto fell into the river about noon Monday while fishing, his 38-year-old uncle, José Antonio Terreri Peña jumped in to save him.
Canto’s death was ruled an accident by drowning and a blunt-force head injury by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office. The Coroner ruled Peña’s death an accident caused by drowning in an attempt to rescue Canto.

A 14-year-old boy and his 38-year-old uncle died after the teen fell in the Poudre River yesterday and his uncle went in after him.
The boy's body was found by rafters around 4 p.m., eight miles downstream from where he fell in near the Ouzel Picnic Area in Poudre Canyon. According to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Department, the 38-year-old uncle was airlifted to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The uncle was airlifted to Poudre Valley Hospital, where he died Monday evening. A third Good Samaritan who tried to help in the rescue is in good condition at Poudre Valley Hospital. Officials have not released the names of the uncle or the boy.
