Since campgrounds around the state have yet to fully open, the town of Estes Park is encouraging its residents to take part in a backyard campout on May 30 instead.

Whether you pitch a tent in the backyard, on the porch, or in the living room, this virtual event is meant to be fun and inspired by how we usually camp in Colorado. Unroll the sleeping bags, bust out the s'mores, and brush up on your ghost stories for a Saturday night under the stars. As the date gets closer, Visit Estes Park will be providing planning tips to campers on their social media platforms.

With a little creativity, the backyard campout gives you the chance to feel like you've escaped for the night and will get you ready for the real deal once campgrounds open back up. Estes Park invites participating campers to share photos of their campground using the hashtag #EstesParkinYourBackyardCampout for the chance to win prizes.
