After closing three years ago, the Pikes Peak Cog Railway is inching closer to reopening in 2021. A $100 million renovation has taken place in the past three years, including fixing the railroad, tracks, cogs, and upgrades to the depot.

There are even new engines and rail cars imported from Erlen, Switzerland. The first of the coach rail cars have arrived in Southern Colorado on March 27 after traveling more than 5,000 miles by land, river, and ocean. The engines have been on test runs to the summit of Pikes Peak, which is a total of 8.9 miles. Final construction is ongoing at the new Summit Complex. During construction, the summit of Pikes Peak remains closed until May 23.

After completing the new Summit Complex, the Pikes Peak Cog Railway will be chugging up the side of the mountain again after three long years. The Pikes Peak Cog Railway is expected to resume in early summer according to CBS Denver.

Another highlight from our weekend: our first coaches arrived as well!
