6 Things to Know About the New Meat Facility Coming to Greeley
Though it won't be as large as JBS on the east side of Greeley, there will soon be another 'meat packing' plant in town.
JBS, formerly, Swift, has been in Greeley for decades, employing thousands of people. Just passing by the parking lot for employees, you get a glimpse of the scale of the operation. So, when you hear of another meat-production plant coming to Greeley, you get intrigued.
I used to work at a microchip 'factory/plant' in Fort Collins in the early-to-late '90's. I did appreciate how the job ended when the shift ended. Work hard, go home and not work; you can't do it at home, you have to do it there. Plus, it paid well. I was curious about this new facility coming to Greeley, and thought others might be, as well.
The Greeley Tribune and BizWest have the story, let me break it down.
WHO'S COMING TO TOWN?
Premium Foods. From their website, they have had three goals in mind since starting out in 1998:
- Strive for unmatched quality in our products, processes and procedure.
- Build a team of specialists and professionals to establish safety standards above the norm.
- Be known for innovative products that always represent good value for our customers.
WHAT WILL THEY BE DOING THERE?
It sounds like the main thing happening there will be breaking down large meat portions in to smaller portions for 'Sioux-Vide' (above) where meat is vacuum-sealed to later be cooked under precise temperatures.

WHERE IS IT GOING TO BE LOCATED?
Premium Foods will be taking over a location off of 23rd Avenue and 29th Street, west of Tractor Supply Co. and Del Taco; it's the building that used to be home to Kmart, years ago.
HOW MANY DO THEY EXPECT TO EMPLOY?
300. For scale, JBS probably has about 300 workers on every shift.
GIVE IT TO ME STRAIGHT, WILL IT SMELL?
They are forecasting 'minimal impact from odor.' They won't be slaughtering anything, so there's that.
WHEN WILL PREMIUM FOODS OPEN THIS FACILITY IN GREELEY?
Probably no sooner than summer of 2023.
Welcome to town, Premium.
