Most Areas Of Grand County Affected By East Troublesome Fire Expected To Reopen Monday
In a bit of good news, many of the areas in Grand County that have been evacuated since October 20 due to the East Troublesome Fire are expected to be reopened as early as today.
According to the Grand County Sheriff, the reopening process will be slow and extremely difficult as families go back and try to pick up pieces of what's left behind.
Currently, the fire has burned more than 193,000 acres, destroyed more than 300 residential structures and between 100-200 secondary structures like barns, garages etc...the fire is currently 37% contained.
There are still a few areas that just can't be opened up quite yet and Highway 125 will remained closed from milepost 5.3 North both directions as well as CR 491, which will remain closed just past the National Park housing area as crews continue their hard work in this area. These areas back open as soon as we possibly can.
