More Beef, More Jobs? JBS Looking To Expand Greeley Footprint
It's a well known NoCo joke that you can always tell when things are happening at JBS in Greeley, as the occasional smell - some say that's the smell of money - wafts across the northern part of the state.
Some say "if it smells like Greeley, it's going to snow." Never quite understood the reasoning for that one. But with expansion on the horizon at JBS USA, it may at least be raining cash on Colorado residents as the project no doubt will lead to more jobs at one of the country's largest beef production facilities.
They announced a $50 billion expansion project yesterday, with increased efficiency as its main purpose but also increased production capacity as well. The company is also investing in a Texas facility, bringing their total improvements to around $200 billion in the United States. The work is slated to begin this year.
In a press release, JBS said:
These investments will provide improved efficiencies at the facilities and the potential for increased production capacity in the future, creating opportunities for cattle producers, consumers, JBS team members and the broader rural communities where the plants are located. The projects will begin construction in 2025.
Today’s announcement demonstrates our commitment to the U.S. beef industry and the American farmer and rancher. At JBS, we prioritize ongoing investments in our facilities to ensure our company and the rural areas where we live and work are positioned for success now and in the future.
As Weld County's largest employer, JBS is always re-investing in the Greeley and surrounding communities with local projects and obviously, the creation of more and more jobs. That they're only investing more and more money into their Greeley facility is a sign of good things to come for the local job market in 2025 and beyond.
