Man Facing 10 Years in Cheyenne Shooting

A 59-year-old man could face up to ten years in prison after allegedly shooting and wounding his daughter's boyfriend outside of a Cheyenne apartment complex last Friday night.

Charles Hopkins made his initial appearance via video conferencing in Laramie County Circuit Court this (Friday) afternoon. He did not enter a plea.

Hopkins is charged with aggravated assault and battery-bodily injury with weapon.

According to court documents, Laramie County deputies were called to 909 W. College Drive #F around 9:50 p.m. on May 12.

Hopkins' daughter reportedly told deputies that her father shot the love of her life, 33-year-old Nicholas Johnson, after the two got into an argument over a vehicle.

Johnson, who suffered a gunshot wound to his torso, was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. He is currently listed in critical condition in the ICU.

Hopkins' bond was set at $20,000 cash. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 30 at 9 a.m.
