Loveland’s ‘Next Door’ May Need a New Name. We Have Some Suggestions! [Poll]

Next Door Food & Drink has been open for nearly three years in downtown Loveland, and is one of the top-rated restaurants in town. Being top-rated, attracts attention. Next Door, indeed, got the attention of the restaurateurs of The Kitchen Next Door. The Kitchen Next Door opened their first place in 2004, in Boulder. In June of 2014, when opening their Union Station location, they changed over to just calling themselves ‘Next Door’. So now, they’re suing Next Door to stop using their own name. Jerks…

According to the lawsuit, the name of Loveland’s establishment is ‘..too similar…causing confusion.’ Confusion? There’s only ONE Next Door Food and Drink. Just the one, in Loveland. There isn’t a The Kitchen/Next Door in Loveland. If there was, that MIGHT cause confusion. It’s THEIR websites that are making things confusing- are they “The Kitchen’ or are they ‘Next Door’? It would seem that they don’ even really know.

I can tell you, THIS scenario is definitely not happening:

‘Let’s meet up at Next Door in Loveland!’ ‘Did you mean that place on College- ‘The Kitchen?’ ‘Did I SAY Fort Collins? Or ‘The Kitchen?’’

I don’t see any confusion. I’m almost surprised Next Door hasn’t been sued by Nurse Next Door. We’re such a litigious society…

But, fine. I say, let Next Door save the money they’d have to spend trying to beat the bigger dog in court. I think they should move on and start deciding on what they WILL call themselves. I have a few ideas.

Twin Owls Downtown. The owners of Next Door used to own/operate the Twin Owls Steakhouse in Estes Park, before selling it to open their new place in downtown Loveland. Of course, by trying Twin Owls Loveland, they’d probably get calls from the Estes Park place that they no longer are affiliated with.

The Rialto Bridge Café. Next Door is right next door to the Rialto Theater Center. The Rialto Bridge is the official name of the newer construction that’s attached to the old Rialto; Next Door being a part of that new construction from 2012.

Small Shoes. At one point, where Next Door now stands, a shoe shop called 'Quality Shoe Repair' used to exist- for over 30 years. Since Next Door is known for their tapas (smaller portion menu items), this could be a great, cute, throwback name.
