On a beautiful fall day in Colorado, some folks in Loveland were concerned when they saw black smoke rising in the southern part of the city. Those who were concerned must not have seen the "heads up" the fire department put out for days prior. You have to imagine that it was quite a show for those in the retirement community nearby.

I was in Loveland the afternoon of October 24, 2025, when, while driving south, I saw some smoke nearby. Having been one of the people that hadn't seen Loveland Fire Rescue Authority's alert about the exercise, I felt that I had to track it down; not that I could have assisted, but being in the "media," getting some photos seemed prudent.

I tracked the smoke down to being somewhere between Madison Avenue and St. Louis Avenue; upon getting to 4th Street S.E. I found more than a few vehicles from Loveland Fire Authority, including two fire engines, on the scene putting out a fire that was taking over a small white house that sat along 4th Street S.E. I still didn't know it was a "live fire" training exercise; I just thought the house had caught fire, and they were doing their jobs.
