Loveland Freshman Aims to Raise $100,000 to Help ‘Cookies for Kids’ Cancer’

It's always awesome to hear about young people doing great things. This young person has been at it for for seven years already; now the stakes have been "upped."

It started out small, just a fun "do something good" gesture, which brought in $400 in it's first year. After her mom was diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer, she decided it was time to go "bigger" (which she did,) and now she's been encouraged to go even higher.

September is National Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month; with that, Daniela Ortiz, who attends Resurrection Christian School will be holding her annual bake sale to benefit the cause, through Cookies For Kids' Cancer. Her annual fundraiser is called the "Galaxy Cookies" fundraiser, as Daniela hopes to be an aerospace engineer. It also represents how "high" she wants to go with her bake sale.

In 2019, Daniela's mom was diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer, seeing what her mother was going through, Daniela thought about how hard it must be for children battling cancer, along with their families. She really ramped up her bake sale, and ended up bringing in $5,000 in 2020, and in 2021 $22,000 for Cookies for Kids' Cancer. Now, she's onto her big challenge.

Daniela and her mother met with the founder of Cookies for Kids' Cancer, and was proposed a challenge: To raise $100,000 by the time that she graduates. $100,000 is the amount of money it takes to fund a entire research grant. With $42,000 already raised, Danielle needs to raise $58,000 with four bake sales. That's no easy feat. Her goal for this year is $18,000 towards the $58,000.
