Seems that everywhere you turn, someone is trying to rip you off. Loveland's gotten word on a new scam going around- Be aware!

The City of Loveland is alerting its residents to a scam going around. The scam being, you get an automated call from what appears to be Platte River Power Authority- the power company for Loveland, Fort Collins, Longmont, and Estes Park. The call states that you're past due on your bill and need to call ANOTHER number to rectify the situation within 30 minutes or your utilities will be shut off.

Nope.

The city reminds everyone that you'll definitely get something in the mail TWICE about your delinquent bill before any shut-off. The Loveland PD is aware of the scam and there have been no reports of anybody getting ripped off with these calls. That's good news.

If you ever suspect the validity of a phone call from the Utility Department, hang up and call their official phone number- the number that you'll find on your bill- 970-962-2111.
