Looking Back At The Devastating 2012 High Park Fire (Gallery)

Lighting struck the foothills near Fort Collins on June 9, 2012, igniting a wildfire that would burn for nearly a month.

In all, the High Park Fire burned 87,415 acres of forested landscape near the Poudre River.

One resident was killed. A total of 259 homes were destroyed, with insurance losses totaling more than $100 million. About $38 million was spent to put out the fire that garnered national headlines.

The Rocky Mountain USDA Research Station conducted an in-depth study of the fire in 2017, bringing valuable lessons for fighting future wildfires.
