Longmont Gets Windfall of Nearly $1 Million After Broncos Sale
Boulder County was one of seven Denver Metro counties that helped to fund 75% of the new Broncos stadium over 10 years, as part of the Stadium District. That investment paid off, big time.
It's like getting an envelope in the mail saying that a long, lost relative just left you hundreds of thousands of dollars: Very unexpected. Now, Longmont is one of many cities sitting on quite a little windfall. What will they do with it?
Bottom line, according to The Daily Camera, is that after the Walton-Penner group purchased the Denver Broncos for $4.5 billion, $41 million was owed to those seven counties that funded the Stadium District. Longmont's share of that profit coming to a whooping amount; enough to choke a horse, you might say.

The "funny" thing is, is that Longmont doesn't really have a solid plan on what's going to be done with all that money. The money is to be spent on "youth activity programs," and according to The Daily Camera, that's a very wide spectrum of vagueness. It could go to things like uniforms for little league or go towards music & arts. Both are youth activities.
A FEW IDEAS FOR LONGMONT'S WINDFALL:
- Paying Russell Wilson to coach the Trojans for a week or two.
- Paying for every schoolkid to see a show at Denver's Theater District.
- Taking all little leaguers to a Denver Broncos game at Mile HIgh.
HOW MUCH MONEY WILL LONGMONT ACTUALLY BE RECEIVING?
$980,481. Nearly one million dollars, just dropping out of the sky. How fun is that? Longmont's City Council will be discussing what the city will be doing with all that money.
